Representatives About Supporting Florida Boaters Safety Course Legislation
Date: 23 Nov. 2007
All Hands,
It has been announced that the Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission has plans to push legislation next spring to have
every boater in the State of Florida to take a mandatory boaters safety
course; currently, this requirement applies only to boaters under the age of
21 .
In July, 2007 it is reported that Florida’s boating
accident rate (671) for 2006 was second only to California’s 757. Florida led
the nation with 69 fatalities, compared to 47 for Texas and 44 for
California. In Polk County alone, having the most boating accidental deaths
in the state - 20 - during the five-year period from 2001-2005.
I urge you to contact your State Senate and House
Representatives to support and stand behind this important legislation for
boater safety. Please contact them and show your support.
I have enclosed a website where you may find your
legislators.
Best Regards,
